Dustbin
A dustbin is an invention installation at the request of Eugene Poubelle. Appeared in 1884, the term results by Antonomase from the proper name from the prefect while having instituted the practice. With the clean Direction, a dustbin is a tight Récipient intended to receive the Déchet S, in particular the household refuse.
French origins
In 1884, under the III {{E}} République, the Préfet of the Seine, Eugene-Rene Poubelle, issues that “Henceforth, the household refuse will be collected via a wood container furnished inside tinplate, so that nothing can escape from it. These containers will be able to also contain hot ashes without risk of Incendie” . These containers will be soon called dustbins .
From the beginning, the sorting had been envisaged. Indeed, nonglad to invent the dustbin , the prefect had envisaged to store waste in three specific vats:
- for household waste
- for papers and the rags
- for glass, earthenware; or oyster shells
An everyday usage
Since Eugene Dustbin, street sweeper S (improperly called dustmen or even muddy ) are charged to regularly remove the dustbins deposited on the pavements or in the courses. Their contents will go, via a specialized truck (truck-dustbin), to flow in the discharges and factories of incineration.
Soon, the use of dustbins will be essential in France in each commune and each hearth, then in all the industrialized countries which will adopt the principle of the garbage collection via a dustbin.
At the 21st century, the dustbin is a container with the multiple forms and colors, equipped with a lid manufactured in various materials (generally in plastic) and various dimensions (of the dustbin of ceramics table to the enormous containers used by the Industrie.
Various models
One of the most famous models is the Vipp , of cylindrical form with a lid, a pedal and two short handles, created with the Denmark in 1939 and whose initial design was taken again by large designers (of which Philippe Starck and Christian Lacroix).
