Dudley Robert Herschbach

Dudley Robert Herschbach (born on June 18th 1932 with San Jose in California), is an American chemist. In 1986, it jointly obtained the Nobel Prize of chemistry with Yuan T. Lee and John C. Polanyi for their contributions to the dynamics of the elementary chemical processes.

Biography

Dudley Herschbach received a Bachelor off Science in mathematics in 1954 then a master in chemistry in 1955 with the University Stanford. It also obtained a diploma of master in physics in 1956, then a diploma of doctorate in physical chemistry to the Université Harvard. Thereafter he became professor in this last university. In 2005, he became professor of physics to the Texas A&M University.

Herschbach is large a militan sciences of education and scientific Popularization. He is member of the Center for Arms Control and Non-prolifération , and also makes party of the advisory counsel of the association Scientists and Engineers for America which promotes science near the US government.

Humanistic, it in particular signed, with other prizes winner of the Nobel Prize, a call asking that a delegation of the Committee of the Rights of the Child of UNO returns visit to a child Tibetan under house arrest since 1995 in China, Gendhun Choekyi Nyima, recognized like 11th Panchen LAMA by the 14th Dalaï Lama, Tenzin Gyatso.

Scientific work

Herschbach and Lee worked specifically on the molecular rays; they carried out experiments, called crossed molecular beam which made it possible to include/understand on a molecular level the processes of many elementary reactions. The work of Herschbach is primarily in the field of physical chemistry and theoretical chemistry.
