Summary

PULASKI, VIRGINIA, June 3rd, 1985

A man is awaked in middle of the night by a violent light in his room. Paralyzed, it attends impotent the arrival of beings humanoïdes whereas a vessel planes with the top of the house, carried by a column of light.

PENITENTIARY PROCESSING CENTER DAVIS, MARION, VIRIGNIE, August 7th, 1994

The man is called Duane Barry. He claims to be removed by the extraterrestrial ones and that they must return for him soon. Duane seizes the revolver of a guard and takes its psychiatrist as an hostage with three other people. Mulder is called on the spot to negotiate because of the requirements of Duane Barry - he wants that the doctor accompanies it on a site by extraterrestrial appearances. The agent in load of the operation is shown not very co-operative and of course does not believe a word of what Duane claims. After the first conversation with Duane, Mulder discovers that the agents hid things to him: inter alia, that Duane Barry is an old agent of the FBI, internee with various recoveries since 1982. Lastly, when Mulder calls Scully to require its assistance of him, a power cut followed by an unknown glare of light causes panic at Duane - this one opens fire randomly and wounds an hostage. Mulder is sent under cover of a medical team to recover the hostage. The second ambulance man leaves with the hostage but Mulder remains on the spot in exchange.

To gain its confidence, Mulder gives details on its own experience of the extraterrestrial contacts. And Duane Barry remembers - the strange beings, the tests, holes bored in its teeth using lasers, how they read in him and do not let it leave. He saw other people, young girls on whom they practice painful examinations. Duane Barry requires to be included/understood and respected, but especially he does not want to turn over with them. According to him, men of the government are present during removals and of the tests, of the soldiers. They collaborate to preserve the truth. Implants were placed to him in the sines, the gums and the navel. Made Scully of research in connection with Duane Barry - she learns that it was wounded with the brain at the time of a mission and that it is since victim of disturbances of the personality and hallucinations. It was probably never removed by the extraterrestrial ones. Duane Barry became a chronic and pathological liar.

During this time, the agents in load try to assemble a rescue operation. But Mulder manages to convince Duane Barry to slacken the hostages, and this one is made cut down by the marksmen placed around the places of the taking of hostage. In spite of the revelations of Scully, Mulder wants to accept the account of Duane Barry.

HOSPITAL OF THE MEMORIAL OF JEFFERSON, RICHMOND, VIRGINIA

The person in charge of the rescue operation, the Kazdin agent, invites Mulder with the bedside of Duanne Barry at the hospital. It informs him of the results of analysis of the hospital: x-rays revealed the presence of many pieces of metal in its frontal sinus, its gums and its abdomen. Moreover, tiny boreholes were found in its lower second and third molars - according to specialists, it is a work of very utmost precision which could not have been made with the material usually used, especially without to have damaged the teeth.

Mulder gives one of the implants to Scully to check if they are not only glares of bombs which Barry could have had in Vietnam. The analysis under the electron microscope shows serrations extrêmenent precise which cannot be accidental. The evening even, in a supermarket, Scully benefits from one moment of carelessness of the cashier to follow her intuition: it passes the metal glare in front of the laser beam of the codes bars, which threw into a panic the cash register. During this time, Duane Barry is awaked by a halation of light at the hospital. Taken of panic, he flees after having struck a guard. This same night, Scully is made attack by Barry, at it, whereas it left a message on the responder of Mulder to inform him of the incident of the supermarket… TO FOLLOW
