Drama of Superga

The drama of Superga is a Air crash which has occurred Friday May 4th 1949 on the hill of the Superga in the surroundings of Turin. Plane, a FIAT G212, which transported the team and the trainers of the Torino Football Club, champion of Italy, as well as journalists and leaders which accompanied it struck a wall of support for the back of the basilica of Superga which dominates the hill. The 31 people on board were killed.

At the time of the drama, the team returned from Lisbon where it had disputed a friendly match against the Benfica for the jubilee of the Portuguese captain Jose Ferreira. This catastrophe is the greatest tragedy in the history of the Italian sport, making disappear the players from a legendary team which had gained the titles of Série has during four consecutive years (1946, 1947,1948 and 1949, plus that of 1943 before the beginning of the war).
