Draft NBA 2002
The draft NBA 2002 took place the June 26th 2002 with the theater of the Madison Square Garden of New York. At the time of this draft, the teams of the National Basketball Association (NBA) selected 57 players, resulting from NCAA, the players being able to be eligible for the first time such of the players of college and the not-American leagues. The draft was diffused on ESPN and TNT with 19:30 (hour of the East). The NBA announced that 42 players of university and college and five players foreign had presented themselves to this draft. The Chicago bulldozers and the Golden State Warriors had 22,5% of chances to obtain the first choice, but they are the Houston Rockets, with 8,9% of probability, which gained the lottery of the draft the May 19th. The bulldozers and Warriors were second and third, respectively. Like sanction for violations of the Salary course at the time of the Season NBA 2000-2001, the Minnesota Timberwolves were private of their first turn of draft.
As a first choice of Rockets, Yao Ming became the first foreign player without experiment of the American tennis shoe to being drafté in first position. The draft 2002 beat a record with 17 selected foreign players, including six with the first turn. At the conclusion of the regular season, Amare Stoudemire was named NBA Rookie off the Year. In 2005, Yao Ming beat the record of the number of votes for an AlStar with 2.558.278 votes, enabling him to obtain a station of holder of the Western Conference to the All-Star Range.
After a promising season rookie, number 2 of the draft Jay Williams violated the terms of its contract by making motor bike and failed to lose the life in an accident wounding it seriously. Whereas it started an intense program of rehabilitation, in 2007, Williams still did not play a match in NBA.
