A downpour is a Précipitation being characterized by an abrupt beginning and an end and by fast variations of intensity. Often strong and from short duration, it comes from Nuage S like the Cumulus budding and gives Pluie or Neige according to the season. But sometimes, the downpours are due to small cumulonimbus, which are not likely to have an electric potential.
A thundery shower, more correctly called Storm, comes from a Cumulonimbus and is accompanied by the lightning. It can give Grêle.
