In the years 1980, whereas the influence of John Byrne is very important on X-Men, the series headlight of Marvel, it wishes to create a team of supermen resulting from his country, Canada. After having integrated Serval, superhéros Canadian, in the team of X-Men, it sends it in this country for several episodes vis-a-vis a group which will become Division Alpha.
When a series is created especially for this team, Byrne takes it in hand, even if it does not seem particularly enthusiastic. It will be the case only during 29 episodes. During this time, it tries to approach the stories in a way different from the other stories of groups from superman like X-Men, the Fantastic Vengeurs or the Four. Indeed, the team is formed only occasionally with large complete, and the intrigues are generally focused on the actions from one or two character (S) at the same time. This original narration dissociates the title of the remainder of the Marvel production, and attracts to him a relatively important assistantship.
Once replaced Byrne, various authors and draftsmen are succédé, like Bill Mantlo, Fabian Nicieza or Scott Lobdell. The series continues during 130 numbers before finishing in 1994. It thus makes it possible to create many characters and Cross-country race-over S with other heroes of the Marvel universe.
A new series (noted Alpha Flight vol. 2 ) is started again in 1997, with slightly different characters. This second series continues on 20 numbers (and a annual ) until 1999. The series was started again one second time in 2004 ( Alpha Flight vol. 3 ), but stopped at the end of 12 numbers because of disappointing sales.
In April 2007, Marvel launched a new adaptation of Division Alpha, under the title Omega Flight .
The first Division Alpha
James McDonald Hudson is an engineer in Pétrochimie which invents a armor which makes it possible its user to dig under ground for the prospection of Pétrole. However, its employer, Jaxon, project to resell his invention with the American army. When Hudson discovers that, it destroys the plans and keeps the helmet of its armor so that it can function never again.
The Canadian government entrusts to Hudson the creation of the department H , a secret agency. It improves its armor within the framework of this agency then, with a group of Canadian supermen whom it recruits, tries to find Serval to bring back it to Canada. It fails and takes then the name of Vindicator and creates the Division Alpha .
This first Division Alpha is made up of the following members:
Thereafter, two members of the Division Béta are recruited:
James McDonald Hudson, the leader of the team, will be made call successively Arme Alpha , Guardian then Vindicator . During a confrontation between Division Alpha and the Division Omega that Jerome Jaxon creates to be avenged for Guardian, this last is disintegrated with its armor. His wife, Heather Hudson, take again the torch by adapting for it an armor identical to that of her husband. It takes again thus at the same time the name of Vindicator and the orders of Division Alpha.
Béta Division
Béta Division was a Canadian team supermen organized by the Canadian governmental service. Each member initially belonged to Division Gamma before receiving a more advanced formation for finally being able to join Division Alpha and to be able to take part in the main missions.
The first Béta Division was made up of five members:
It disappeared when the program and the department H were removed by the Canadian government for financial reasons.
The second Béta division was made up of:
-
Goblyn
- Manikin
- Pathway
- the girl crimson (Persuasion)
- Witchfire
Months later, when Division Alpha practically destroyed with its head offices by the being known under the name of Tumult, the members of the team realized that the circumstances had placed under their responsibility several young heroes: the girl crimson (thereafter Persuasion) who in the beginning had tried to integrate Division Alpha, the senior of Laura (become then the Way) and his/her sister Goblyn which were agents of Tumult, and Manikin which had been the laboratory assistant of the enemy of the team named Bousculade. The older heroes proposed to them to be organized in a new semi-official Béta Division and started to form them with the “trade”. Thereafter the two teams cooperated in a series of adventures which carried out them on another planets and other dimensions. When they finally returned to their reality, Béta Division failed to cause an international incident in China while appearing suddenly in the middle of a conflict between the Popular republic of China and the pacifist monks.
Division Gamma
There existed also a third team, Division Gamma, consisted of young recruits. During a time, Division Alpha worked secretly for the county of Edmonton, Alberta. The government created then a new national team, strongly controlled, and including/understanding certain amnestied members of the Divison Omega, a team opposed to Division Alpha.
Division Gamma was dismantled.
The second Division Alpha
Between 1997 and 1999, Marvel publishes a new series dedicated to Division Alpha, with different characters:
original Name Name in France Name of the character Characteristics Flex Flex Adrian Corbeau converts whole or part of its body into bio-metal Murmur Murmur has powers to control of the spirit Radius Radius Jared Corbo produces a field of force around him Manbot Manbot
The series was well accommodated, because the drawings and the history are of quality.
The scenario is especially centered there on the relations which these young recruits with their “employer have”, the Department H. In their adventures, they fight against the Zodiac.
The third Division Alpha
In 2004, Marvel tries once again to start again the series by naming it Nouvelle Division Alpha (" AlNew, AlDifferent"). This new Division is carried out by Sasquatch and includes/understands:
