The district is the geographical framework in which the population belongs to a given list. One in general distinguishes the general districts from the specialized districts .

The general districts are: The district is the least known of these districts and yet it is within this framework that the deputies are elected: to each district corresponds a sub-prefecture and a legislative district. In a department, their number depends on the importance of the population: each department counts at least two legislative districts. The canton is a district which has nothing any more but one electoral function: it is within its framework that the general advisers are elected, with the majority uninominal system with two turns, and who compose the general advice, whose seat is located in the departmental prefecture. Formerly the department was regarded as the most important level, the genuine relay of the policy of the State but the legislator tends to reinforce the role of the area, through the laws of decentralization, allocate more and more responsibility to the district councils, whose members are elected with the poll proportional of list.There exists:
