Dissection

A dissection consists of the opening of an animal or vegetable body according to a definite protocol. The dissection is practiced in the courses of Biologie, Botanique and Anatomie.

History

The first public dissection of an human being in Central Europe is perhaps the fact of the Slovak doctor Ján Jesenský (1566 - 1621) and the vice-chancellor of the Université Charles of Prague in 1600.

Types of dissection

There exist several types of dissections, of which some have a particular name according to the required objective or of the procedure employed:
  • in teaching the dissection is a teaching technique which consists in cutting out a pluricellular organization for scientific examination.
  • in medicine the dissection consists of an operation surgical intended to divide, separate or remove sick fabrics.
  • the Vivisection indicates the dissection on an experimental basis live animal.
  • the Autopsie for its part indicates the dissection of a corpse in order to determine the cause of the death.
