Diodore of Sicily (in Greek old Διόδωρος / Diódôros ) is a historian and Greek chronicler of first century BC, born towards 90 with Agyrium in Sicily, died towards 30. He is the author of the historical Bibliothèque .
Biography
Diodore of Sicily saw time of Jules César and Auguste. After having visited the regions of Europe and Asia as well as Egypt, it is established with Rome. It leaves a considerable work, one of richest of information on the ancient Egypt, the ancient Greece and the ancient Rome. He works during 30 years with the historical Bibliothèque , which covers more than thousand years of history, of mythological times with Jules César. Its work, written in Greek, includes/understands 40 books of which 15 remain today; it is the first to approach a universal history.
Sometimes one allots to Diodore of Sicily the list of the seven wonders of the world being given his detailed description of the hanging gardens of Babylon to book II of the historical Bibliothèque .
