Diablo II is a Hack' N slash of Blizzard Entertainment, left on June 30th, 2000 concerned video.

Playable on line on Battle.net, it gathers a great community of players and is regarded as a reference of the kind hack' N slash.

Gameplay

Bases of the play

To begin the part, the player must choose one of the classes of characters described below and allot a single name to him, i.e. which was not already chosen by another player on the same waiter, in the case of Battle.net, or on the same computer, in the case of parts apart from Battle.net.

The play is broken up into several acts (4 for Diablo II and 5 with the extension Lord off Destruction), taking place in a specific environment, that is to say flat for act 1, desert for act 2, jungle for act 3, hell for act 4 and mountain for act 5. The environment " enfer" is not placed at the end, as one could suppose it, simply because at the origin, i.e. before the extension Lord off Destruction, act 4 was the final act. With each act the player begins in a city where there is no danger, but rather characters not players (PNJ or NPC in English) which helps the player in multiple manners, for example by offering to him magic searches, councils, care, the sale and the purchase of equipment, the services of Mercenaire, etc At the end of each act, in order to pass to the following act, the player will have to face and overcome a definite Boss, that is to say Andariel for act 1, Duriel for act 2, Mephisto for act 3, Diablo for act 4 and Baal for act 5.

Once outside the city, the player finds himself confronted with the surrounding creatures. He will meet many increasingly powerful enemies, whom he will have to kill in order to acquire experiment and objects. The player profits from a chart, which is traced as the ground is discovered, in order to be located more easily. To note that the chart of each table is redrawn with each part as a multi-players mode. In solo mode, the player preserves the same charts inside the same level of difficulty, although the elements generated inside these charts, such as the enemies, the treasures, etc, are regenerated randomly.

Diablo II comprises three modes of difficulty: normal, nightmare ( nightmare ) and hell ( hell ). It is necessary to finish the play in " difficulty; normal" to be able to play in nightmare, and to have finished it in nightmare to be able to play in hell. The power of the enemies and that of the recoverable objects by the player increase largely with the wire of these levels of difficulty.

The interface of the play is relatively simple to apprehend. The player moves his character by making a left click with the mouse on a point of the table where it is, and the character goes there. There to attack an enemy, it is necessary still to make a left click top, to suppose that the click of left is always associated with the normal attack. Indeed, the player has two " sites of raccourcis" in which it can place capacities to use against the enemies: one on the left of the screen which is used with the left click (by defect, the normal attack), and the other on the right of the screen, being used with a right click. The player is thus free to choose the capacities which he wants to frequently use, though the list of those being able to be associated with the left click is limited.

The character has a certain quantity of points of life, which it loses when it is wounded by an enemy, and of a certain quantity of points of Mana, used for launching fates. The character dies when its points of life fall to zero. The points of mana are recovered with the wire of time, the refresh rate being able to be influenced multiple manner, as by magic objects or talents available for certain classes. There is practically no fate to be looked after in Diablo II, the means most usually used to restore its points of life is the use of potions. In order to facilitate the rapid access at the time of critical moments, the player can put his potions in his 4 boxes of belt, which can be activated by the short cuts keyboards 1,2,3 and 4. The type of belt carried by the player can provide him from 1 to 3 additional lines. In addition to the potions of life, the belt can carry several other potions, such as the potions of mana, the antidotes, etc These potions can be, inter alia, on the corpse of the enemies, in the trunks and can, for the majority, being bought near certain merchants in the towns of departure of the various acts.

When the short character, that is to say because the player holds inserted the key " ALT" or because it activated the option " always courir" , it is tired; this is symbolized by a bar of endurance in bottom of the screen, which decreases as the character runs. When this bar of endurance reaches zero, the character is tired too much and starts to walk, moving at a fallback speed. The bar of endurance goes up gradually when the character remains motionless a short moment.

With each killed monster, the character gains experiment; when the accumulated experience reached a certain quantity, the character gains a level. To gain a level results in the possibility of being able to increase by five points its statistics (the force, dexterity, vitality or energy. On each level, the player also profits from a point of competence which it can allocate with the fates and aptitudes of his character. If the character dies, it loses the money which it has on him, a part entirely disappears, the other falls beside the corpse and can be recovered, and returns to the city without its equipment. It is thus necessary to turn over to seek it. On the level nightmare and hell you lose also experiment. You can however regain a part of it if you manage to join your corpse.

There are 2 modes of play in Diablo II:

  • normal mode: unlimited number of lives;
  • the hardcore mode (available after having finished the normal level of difficulty in normal mode) where one has only one life. If one dies, one cannot use his character any more, nor to recover the objects of this one, except if you authorized the people of your group to excavate your corpse.

Extension

Diablo II is the continuation of Diablo and has an extension: Diablo II: Lord off Destruction.

This one adds a great number of new single objects, objects specific to the classes of characters, charms, Rune S, plug-in jewels, many formulas calling upon the Cube Horadrim, and of the combination of runes to be put in an object crimped to make it much more powerful and to change its attributes. The player has of a hiding-place twice larger for the storage of objects and a second easily interchangeable set of weapons in full combat (without having to open the inventory). To finish, one can benefit from the access to 6 new searches in the act and from two new classes of playable characters, the assassin and the druid.

Since the patch 1.11, the experienced players playing on Battle.net can have access to a new zone, commonly called Überland , an environment similar to that of Tristram accessible by the means of the keys from the destruction, hatred and terror, where they will have the possibility of killing the 3 übers (Diablo, Mephisto and Baal, much stronger than those met at the time of the usual searches, and, which more is, in front of being fought all three at the same time). The goal of this search is to recover a very powerful charm named Torche of the Infernal Flames falling to died from the Über last.

Battle.net

Battle.net is the system of waiter of Blizzard making it possible many players to dispute parts on line.

On Diablo II, the access to Battle.net can be open or closed.

  • Battle.net known as closed is composed of two " modes" of play: the " ladder" and the " No-ladder". The choice of the " mode; ladder" or " No-ladder" is done with the creation of the character.

- The " mode; ladder" is played per one variable and unknown duration seasons. It is conceived to recreate a virgin kingdom artificially, such as it would be if the play had just left (No characters high levels, not of objects resulting from hacks, etc). For that, the characters " ladder" are isolated from the different one, then, at the end of the season, they pass in " No-ladder" (one speaks about reset of the ladder). A springtide starts then, always in autarky. One is today at the fourth season of the " ladder" since the introduction of this system.

- The " mode; No-ladder" when with him, the remainder of the characters represents. Much of them is very high level because they are old characters (they can date from the beginning of the play, " ladders" precedents). One finds also many objects hackés in this mode. These objects one summers introduced since the open mode thanks to duplicated bugs then, always thanks to bugs. Even if the bugs in majority are corrected today, these objects do not remain less present about it in the play.

  • Battle.net open makes it possible to the players to use their characters coming from the countryside solo, it is likely thus there to fall on characters modified with an editor or having pirated objects.

At the same time, the main advantage of this system of shared parts is to be able to exchange objects between characters or friends.

The parts known as closed are one completely unlimited duration of play because you can assemble level much more quickly and remake in group the searches. When you unite with a group and that this one passes 8 players, you will obtain much more experiment because the monsters evolve/move in real-time according to the number of allied players.
