The deserted of Sonora is the greatest arid zone of the North America. It occupies a surface of 320.000 km ², especially in the south-west of the the United States, but also in the north of the Mexico. It is famous for its Cactus saguaro ( Carnegiea gigantea ) with the lengthened form, of which some reach the 15 meters height. It attracts many visitors who come to admire exceptional flowering in the month from March-April. Its landscapes of phantom cities and vast wide are not without evoking the Far West and the universe of Lucky Luke. The atmospheric conditions and high altitudes (often more than 2000 meters) are favourable with the study of the sky and the stars: the area of Tucson holds the strongest concentration of observatory S of the world.
