Dendrolagus lumholtzi
The dendrolague of Lumholtz ( Dendrolagus lumholtzi ; in English: the Lumholtz' S Tree-kangaroo ) is an arboricolous kangaroo found in the Queensland, in Australia. It owes its name with the Norwegian explorer Carl Sofus Lumholtz (1851-1922).
Description
With a length head-tail ranging between 48 and 65 cm, a long tail from 60 to 74 cm nonprehensile and an average weight of 7,2 kg (3.7 to 10 kg) for the males and of 5,9 kg (5.2 to 7 kg) for the females, it is smallest of the arboricolous kangaroos.
It has powerful members, with strong claws with the legs fronts, a gray, short fur. Its muzzle, its feet and the end of the tail are black.
Distribution and habitat
He lives in the wet tropical forests of the area of the Plateau Atherton, with more 300m of altitude, the North of Queensland.
Food
He nourishes sheets and fruits.
Lifestyle
It is a solitary, night animal which passes 99% its time at the top of the trees, in the Canopée. It can make jumps from 3 to 6 m between two branches by using its tail like rudder. In the event of danger, it can be dropped from a height from 15 to 18 m on the ground without being wounded
Reproduction
It does not seem season ago of the particular loves. There is only one small per range
