Delta (river)

A delta is a type of mouth that a River can know at the place where it is thrown in a Océan, a Mer or a Lac.

Under certain conditions related on the turbulence of the sea and the quantity of alluvium S carted by the river, it can be formed a cluster of deposits. Those divide the river into several arms whose layout with the coast is often triangular, resembling the letter Greek that Δ, from where its name. The first division of the river at the entry of the delta is called the Apex.

The intense alluvial activity leads the form even delta to change during time.

There exist two great types of delta: of Gilbert type, and sailors. The delta of the Gilbert type is most current and simplest. It has an abrupt range and basal, frontal deposits Sédimentaire S and on the tops. The marine deltas are more complex in their architecture, because they have an air deltaic part and underwater.

A very known delta is that formed by the the Nile when it is thrown in the Mediterranean by two arms: that of Damiette and that of Rivet washer.
