David Crockett ( David de Crocketagne , born the August 17th 1786 in the county of Greene - died the March 6th 1836 with the Head office of Fort-Alamo). Representative of the State of the Tennessee of which it was native, he became a popular hero of the history of the United States. He is often called Davy Crockett .

Biography

Origins and family life

Born in Tennessee on August 17th, 1786 in the county from Greene, on the banks Nolichucky To rivet it and descendant of Huguenot S French, he is the fifth child of a phratry of nine, and did not receive an elaborate education.

Widower of Polly (1788-1815) who gave rise to three children, it remarie in 1815 with Elizabeth Patton and has four children with it. He was freemason.

Political career

The September 24th 1813, it serves off in the Second Regiment Tennesse Volunteer Mounted Riflemen during 91 days and takes part in the countryside against the Indians Creek under the orders of the future president Andrew Jackson.

From 1821 to 1835, it is several times elected representing of Tennessee to the Congress. It supports there the pioneers installed illegally on grounds of the West without having formally the property of it. He is opposed to president Jackson on the Indian Removal Act. Its opposition to Jackson is the cause of its failure to the election of 1830, but Crockett is re-elected in 1832.

In 1834, it publishes a book: has Narrative the Life off off David Crockett . In 1835, it is again demolishes with the election.

The Revolution texane

It engages shortly after this defeat at the polls in the Révolution texane with the Mexico. The January 14th 1836, it lends oath with 65 men to help the provisional government of Texas. Each man receives the promise of a reward of 4.605 acres (19 km ²) of ground.

He takes share with the defense of Alamo (February 23rd - March 6th, 1836) and sees himself entrusting the guard of the southern palisade. The legend retained that it would have disappeared by carrying out an exit; the newspaper of Jose Enrique of Pena affirms that it was made prisoner by the Mexican general Manuel Fernandez Castrillon and that it was carried out summarily with a dozen men on the order of the president Antonio López de Santa Anna.

In 1838, Robert P. Crockett comes to Texas to claim the promised lands with his father.

The legend

Since 1909, many films of cinema and televised series told the life of Davy Crockett, including one serial in five episodes of the Walt Disney Company in 1954. Crockett was incarnated, inter alia, by John Wayne in the first film which it carried out Alamo , in 1960.

In 1956, Disneyland proposed, in the section of the park baptized Frontierland, a small museum on the character. Figurines waxes of them real sizes of Fess Parker and Buddy Ebsen, the actors incarnating the heroes of the series produced by Walt Disney Pictures, was presented in a decoration of Alamo. The museum closed quickly but the wax mannequins were moved on the Tom Sawyer Island located in the vicinity and were visible several decades.
