David (Panamá)

David is a town of intermediate size located at the south-west of the Panama near the Side-American Highway. It is the capital of the province of Chiriquí. Its population was estimated at 124.500 inhabitants, in 2005.

David was founded in 1602 by Juan López de Sequeira, on banks of the Rivière David (also called Risacua).

San Jose de David (official name) is the third urban surface of Panama. It concentrates the marketing activities of the province, which are mainly turned towards agriculture and the breeding. It is also used as port for the imports and exports with the close Costa Rica. It is connected to the remainder of the country by the Side-American Highway, and the airport Enrique Malek.
