The Datcha (Russian: да́ча) is a Second home in the Russian countryside. Its inhabitants are called the dachniki . One wrongly thinks that it must absolutely be a question of a luxurious residence, it is not at all the case.

Etymology

The word would come, according to certain etymologists, of dat' - verb " donner" in Russian - and would indicate, at the origin, a personal lodging " donné" by the landowner with his serf. This version is not however universally allowed.
