Dark Sanctuary is the name of a group of Ethereal wave and Gothic neo-classic music French, formed in 1996 by Arkdae (which also played with certain groups of Black metal and Death metal such as Sidragazum, Osculum Infame, Deinonychus or Bekhira).

Biography

Their music would be described more precisely like a kind of " dark atmospheric" , that one on the occasion to listen for the first time on Bruises , demonstration cassette left on the label Black metal AMSG productions (for " AD Majorem Satanae Gloriam ").

Then it was Funeral Cry , individual left in 1997 on the label Parisien Ancestral Kraft. At that time, the group was made up only of two members, Arkdae with the keyboard S and Marquise Ermia with the Chant.

But in 1998, the duet wished to give more relief to its music and recruited novel members: an additional clavierist, Hylgaryss, a Percussionniste/Bass player, Sink Cÿr, as well as a Violoniste, Éliane. They recorded together their first album, Royaume Melancholic person , and benefitted from the occasion to give their first concert, in September 1998 close to Paris.

In November 1999, they signed a contract with Wounded Love Records and after one second violonist, Marguerite, joined the quintet, they prepared their second disc, Of Light and Darkness , which made his appearance in November 2000.

Just after this exit, Marquise Ermia announced her departure of the group in order to more be able to concentrate on the continuation her studies. Consequently, a new singer, Rams Pandora, replaced it.

Their third opus, the Being Tired - Back of the Mirror , was recorded in March 2002 and left beginning 2003, only a few months after the publication of individual of two pieces. This album had an unexpected success, as well in France as in Germany.

After some concerts in France, the group turned over to Germany in order to record its fourth album, the Wounded Memories . This last, left beginning 2004, confirmed the style which was specific to Dark Sanctuary, testifying to a greater maturity of the whole while widening its musical horizons. This same year, the formation carried out a European round , including in particular a passage to the Wave Gothik Treffen, in the majestic theater of Leipzig.

The beginning of the year 2005 was the subject of an major event: the publication of their first compilation, Thoughts: 9 years in the sanctuary saw the day under the American label Projekt; it did not begin again less than nine years of career. The other big event this beginning of year was the service of Dark Sanctuary in the homage of Dead Can Dance, Summoning off the MUSE ~ has tribute to Dead Can Dance , also published by Projekt.

In July 2005, Dark Sanctuary turned over to Germany in order to record its fifth album in the E-Klangschmiede studio. After which, the first part of their new album, Exaudi Vocem Meam - Share I left in November 2005 and its continuation, Exaudi Vocem Meam - Share II , exactly a year afterwards.
