History

Create in February 2005 by Benjamin Bejbaum and Olivier Poitrey, following a voyage to New York, the company profited upon the departure of a financial support on behalf of individual investors, first of all of an amount of 250.000 €. In September 2006, the organization revealed that a lifting of funds near two funds of investment, Atlas Ventures and Partech International their made it possible to receive 7 M€, which was regarded as the most awaited lifting of funds year in the Web 2.0 French.

Dailymotion and the policy

For the approach of the French presidential election of 2007, militants are used themselves of Dailymotion to diffuse their vidéos near the Net surfers. Political partisans of all edges put their vidéos at it promotional. A new form of “political Spam” appeared on the site: vidéos of political parties were referred using popular key words not having sometimes anything to see with their contents. Thus vidéos of the National front appeared for the key words “Dubosc” or “Jamel”. This phenomenon is not with one way and research “Ségolène Royal” and “Nicolas Sarkozy” returned of the same worms of the vidéos without relationship with the policy.

June 25th, 2007, Nouvel Observateur revealed that a “exchange of personnel” had taken place between the Dailymotion site and the government Fillon: possible control and the monitoring by governmental services of sensitive informations transmitted by citizens are not thus to exclude.

Operation of the service

Using like YouTube technology Flash to diffuse its contents, it is characterized some however by the use of an engine of encoding in-house developed and by in-house lodging of the contents proposed. This technological control comes owing to the fact that its creators worked before at a shelterer. In addition, Dailymotion, contrary to Youtube, makes it possible to preserve the stereophonic aspect of the band of the vidéos.

To organize the whole of the files, Dailymotion calls upon categories (called " chaînes"), of the key words (like Flickr does it, among others), or with groups. The site also has an internal search engine. Research is carried out by typing tags, key words. The Net surfers can also leave their impression on the vidéos, thanks to a system of posting of comments and give a note for each video.

MotionMaker

MotionMaker (which one could translate by " maker of mouvement") is a creative user who has limit with the upload (neither of time, nor of weight). It also has the possibility of seeing its vidéos proposed on the banner page and on different spaces of Dailymotion.

MotionMakers have the possibility of sending their vidéos like Creative Content (contained creative). That wants to say that they place their vidéos at the disposal of the leading team of Dailymotion, which can then decide to propose it video on the banner page of the site (video star).

Vidéos Stars

Some vidéos (in particular those of MotionMakers) can be highlighted on the banner page. Only the leading team has the right to decide some thus. The vidéos stars are on the banner page of Dailymotion, in top on the left. Generally, they are very popular: from 70000 to 500000 clicks, 700 to 2000 votes, 300 to 700 comments (or more), hundreds of favorites… These vidéos follows one another very regularly. Some made it possible singers to sell their discs (Justice…) by creating a recording company.
