Dace

The dace is one of the languages of antiquity, today dead language, and remains far from known.

For lack of written text making it possible to take a decision, the theories supported by the greatest number are of a mother language of before the appearance of the Indo-European Langues, of an Indo-European language centum, of an Indo-European language satem, even near to Latin for some.

The oral language

One knows the dace only starting from toponymy, by a big number of proper names, rivers, mountains and divinities, as well as the name of 40 medicinal plants.

The Roman poet Ovide would have written two poems in dace, lost, during his exile in Dacie with Tomis (today Constanta) before his death. Décébale wrote a Latin letter for Trajan, without needing interpreter. Inscriptions in old Greek alphabet meet on the walls of some cities.

Today, the Rumanian speak a Latin Langue, the Rumanian . The Aroumains, near to the Wallachian , speak the Aroumain). 160 Rumanian words would be of origin dace. 70 of these words are also Albanian words, which is a language centum.

The written language

Daces write little. One found very few hard copies by them. One of the rare inscriptions in language dace meets on a ceremonial vase: " DECEBALUS PER SCORILO" , which could mean " Décébale, wire of Scorilo". here.

There exist some very obscure documents, whose Rohonczi Codex, probably writes in alphabet dace (see chronology) and another discovery, which presents a writing dace, found at the XIXe century. The presence of the signs " a little " Cyrillic the majority of the historians obstruct, who do not wish to study them, or regard these documents as forgeries.
