DR-DOS is a Operating system of the company DIGITAL Research founded by Gary Kildall.

This operating system of the type DOS left in 1987 and, contrary to that of Microsoft (MS-DOS) with which it is perfectly compatible, it multi-task and is much more optimized. It forever been able to bore even if many comparative tests carried out at the time showed its superiority on its competitor, because Microsoft had integrated in Windows 3.0 a little program of detection of the operating system of the machine. It prevented the Graphical interface from functioning with DR-DOS. A lawsuit against Microsoft (brought in 1996) had led on a fine of 57,5 million dollars.

Currently it is the company Caldera which holds the rights on this operating system. It is still used in some embarked Systèmes.
