DIAMETER

In a Circle or a Sphere, the diameter is a segment of right-hand side passing by the center and limited by the points of the circle or the sphere.

The diameter is also the Length of this segment.

More generally in a metric Space (E, d) one calls diameter of a A part the sup \ {D (has, b), has \ in has, B \ in has \}

To indicate that a value corresponds to the diameter, in Technique, the value (of the diameter) is preceded by a symbol Ø representing a barred circle.

And this symbol is him even preceded by the letter S, if it is about a sphere.

See also ray.

In astronomy, with the concept of diameter one can associate that of apparent Diamètre. The apparent diameter is then homogeneous with an angle and is measured in degree or radian.
