Cyaxare , wire of Phraortès, sovereign of the kingdom mède of 625 with 585).
It reorganized the army mède and attacked the Assyrian Empire, putting the seat in front of Ninive, capital of Assyrie, before having to make half-turn: the Scythes threatened its kingdom indeed. It was overcome by the Scythian riders of Madyès in the north of the Lake Ourmia in 633 and constrained to be subjected to the Scythian yoke.
Towards 615, Cyaxare made assassinate Madyès at the time of a banquet, being thus released from the domination of the Scythes. It slowly reconstituted the power mède before attacking the Assyrie again: it was combined with Nabopolassar, king of Babylon, and their armies took and destroyed Ninive in August -612. The two winners shared the old empire, of which the northern half returns to the Médie.
Cyaxare continued its conquests towards the west, seizing Toushpa, capital of the Urartu, in 590 before declaring the war with the Lydie. Cyaxare and Alyatte of Lydie fought until the eclipse of May 28th, 585, which frightened the two camps so much that they signed at once peace, the river Halys becoming the border between the two kingdoms. Cyaxare died little of time after, and his/her son Astyage took the head of Médie.
