The Coupe Kirin is a tournament organized each year with the Japan by the Kirin corporation. The participants are either of the teams of clubs, or of the national teams. The Équipe of Japan of football takes part systematically in this competition.

Since 1992, the competition is only open to national teams.

The Blue ones and the Kirin Cut

The team of France of football was invited to take part in the Cut Kirin in May 1994. For the new national sport selector Aime Jacquet, places from there only since the month of December 1993, this competition was the occasion to proceed to a broad review of manpower and to make live the group together over a period longer than at the time of the traditional friendly matches.

The Cut Kirin 1994 joined together three national selections: France, the Japan, as well as the Australia new, two adversaries for the Blue ones. After being itself imposed in the pain on May 25th, 1994 on Kōbe against Australia on a ground gorged with water in extreme cases with practicable, France beat easily Japan with Tōkyō four days later (4-1), thus gaining the tournament.
