Cut Europe of the nations of athletics 1965
The 1st Coupe of Europe of the nations of athletics Bruno-Zauli was held in the Federal Republic of Germany, with Stuttgart the 11 and September 12th 1965 for the male test and with Cassel the September 19th 1965 for the female test.
The Soviet Union was essential in the 2 tests.
Male test with the Neckarstadion of Stuttgart
On September 11th and 12th, between the six nations qualified for the male final, on a track in litharge, was held the 1st Cut of Europe. It was characterized by a fight with the knife between the USSR and the Federal Republic of Germany, in front of a crowd of spectators: 40.000 (for the greatest part German) the first day and 35.000 the second (because of the rain). Little time before, the USSR had just beaten the United States with Kiev and was thus favorite. It was then pulled by Gavriil Korobkov. But in Stuttgart, the Stimmung (atmosphere) leant German side clearly and resembled that of a football stadium. The Germans of the West had nevertheless to yield, for only one point, the first Cut with the Soviets (86 points with 85).
