History
The origin of Cunlhat is probably related to the presence of a Roman villa gallo. The name of the commune comes from the Roman proper name " cumiliacus". Under the old mode, Cunlhat was a viguery and constituted one of the richest grounds of the seigniory of Montboissier. The borough was constituted around the Abbatiale become parish church. The monks Bénédictins founded the market which since XIII°s with always place Wednesday. Under the Revolution, Cunlhat knew insurrectionary days which led to the decapitation of the leader, the sior Coiffier de Terraules. Under the Third Republic, Cunlhat had as a mayor between 1882 and 1907 Mister Jean François Edmond Guyot Dessaigne. He was appointed of Puy de Dôme and several times minister. It is as a Minister of Justice of 1906 in December 1907 that it had to implement the law of 1905. During more than 10 years (1988 - 2001), Cunlhat accommodated the largest European gathering of Harley Davidson. Since 2002, it is organized a symposium of modern art, " Building sites of Art" , of international reputation.
