Cumbia

The cumbia is a Musical genre and a Danse born at the 17th century in Colombia. An alternative migrated towards the Panama, the other towards Cuba, initially under the name of cumba , then of cumbia ; the cumbia nevertheless was spread in South America, particularly present in Argentina or at Peru, where it mixed with the musics existing already on the spot. It is sometimes comparable there with the Chicha.

At the beginning, there were the drums death-watch slaves accompanying. Later, the Indien S of the the Antilles added Ocarina S, Flûte S of reed and Gaïta S (kind of long Indian flutes). The Spaniards bring thereafter the melody, the Parole S and the Danse. Maracas and Bongo S are sometimes used.

The word cumbia would come from cumbe , dance of the Guinea (West Africa), from which also with Cuba the word Cumbancha derived.

In Peru, the cumbia is generally scorned by Liméniens. She on the other hand is very appreciated in the campaigns and among the popular classes.

Among the most known songs, let us quote Colegiala of Rodolfo Y Known Tipica, music of a publicity for Nescafe.
