Cruéjouls

Cruéjouls is a common French, located in the department of the Aveyron and the area the Midday-Pyrenees. Its inhabitants is called Cruejoulis.

History the name of Cruéjouls seems to find these origins in the Celtic vocabulary. In French toponymy, the Ialon term or Ialos is present in cities finishing itself by “uéjols”, which means: clearing/Space discovered/Ground/Zone of clearing: According to collected information: Krodioialon = Cruéjouls = the clearing of Krodius

Inheritance : The Management of Historical and Prehistoric Antiquities, as well as Association for the safeguard of the inheritance Archéologique Aveyronnais are allowed to locate the sites from the archaeological point of view: Gallo-Roman vestiges of Puech de Briounas Site Prehistoric in the North of the locality Prionde Dolmens and cave of Scrapes Straw. “Shoed” way which concerns the time Gallo Romaine.

Civil architecture : The castle of Cruéjouls (XV°) concerned at the beginning the baronnie Calmont d' Olt, but changed many times of owner to the wire of the centuries. Middle-class men of Espalion, general treasurer of France, lawyer, followed one another in this residence which after having undergoes the pangs of the war (of religion inter alia), became in 1930, a private school girls, property of the religious community of the tiny sisters of the Saint-Heart of Marie. The Castle of Caylaret (or Cayla) date of 15th and 16th century. It was restored in 1920. One notices the rectangular keep with machicolation, the circular turret of the staircase.
