Cross of saint Andre

In Christianity, holy Andre, the first Apostle called by Jesus in the Bible, went to preach in the Mésie for the first time. Its passage had not rained with the Romans who did it on the spot crucifier.

France

Franche-Comté

Also known as “of Burgundy”, the cross of André saint belongs to the Burgundian heritage bequeathed to the Franche-Comté after the fall of the duke-counts de Bourgogne. When the wars of the 17th century oppose the France and the Comté (then last Burgundian ground), this emblem anti-French is frequently raised by the patriots comtois. The cross of Burgundy is a cross of red André saint on white zone: the flag money blasonne thus “to the lopped saltire of mouths”.

Gascogne

The Flag of Gascogne, which is a white cross of Saint Andre on red bottom - " of mouth to the white cross posed in saltire " - by the pope Clément III at the time of the Third crusade was given.

Note: this flag is not in fact based on any serious document. It has circulated on Internet for a few years, but not only one proof of its existence was not advanced.

Romania

In Romania, it is the most important saint, considered as “guard of Romania” and second founder of the Rumanian Orthodoxe Eglise after the Saint Spirit (opinion of the church).

The cross of André saint is present in many houses among those where the inhabitants still practice the religious Iconographie.

Russia

Already in Ukraine, one regards holy André as the first evangelist of Kiev, first historical capital of Russia. This is why, the order of the Russia tsarist the most prestigious was the imperial order of Saint-Andrew.

The current Russia restored the blue cross of André saint on white zone on the houses of its ships of war, as formerly the sailors of the tsar did it since 1690, since the reign of Pierre I {{er}}.
