Houlette is a common French, located in the department of the Charente and the area Poitou-Charentes. Its inhabitants is called the houlettois and houlettoises .

Geography

The commune of Crook is located in the North-West of the department of Charente, in the " country-bas". It is bordering on the communes of Holy-Severe and Sigogne in Charente and of Courbillac in Charente-Maritime

History

• a protohistoric circular ditch located with the locality the Maples signs the seniority of the occupation.
• the Roman way Holy-Limoges passes to Peyrat and of very many signs of an occupation to the High-Empire were found, as well as a necropolis of the 4th century or beginning of the 5th century. A site is also in Cluzeau (perhaps vestiges of a villa).
• the church which depend on the Saint-Cybard abbey of Angouleme east given in 1589 to the abbey of Bourgueil then to the priory Our-Lady-in-Beaulieu Angouleme and finally, in 1680, with the Saint-Ausone abbey of Angouleme.

Administration

In 2001 the local taxes are at the rate of 10,26% for the tax from dwelling, 19,90% for the real estate tax on the built properties and 53,90% for the real estate tax on propriétées built.

Demography

Crook counts 152 households, on average of 2,6 people with 22,4% of the households made up of a person alone. Between the 1999 and 2006 number of households increased by 7,8% with 11 new households.

In 2006 the 169 residences are almost exclusively houses (1,3% of apartments) of which 152 are main homes, 11 of the second home or occasional, and 6 are vacant.

Teaching

The school is a RPI between Houlette and Réparsac.

Réparsac accommodates the elementary school and Crook the elementary school.

Places and monuments

• Saint Martin's day Church: 12th century vicairie perpetual of the diocese of Holy which depended on the abbey of Saint-Cybard; it passes then to the abbey of Bourgeuil, then, in 1589, with the priory Our-Lady-of-Beaulieu Angouleme. The church, of simple form, had to suffer much from the Protestants. Altered towards 1728, in 1867 its nave is reduced length and the gone up gate; in 1881, it is the object of new repairs. Its roof with long sides is covered with tiles. There exists a staircase at right angles.

• it remains still 3 mills: the mill of the pond, the mill of the pit and the mill of the grid on affluents of the Soloire.
• the majority of the farms are 19th century
• the laundrette was restored and a space adventure playground and picnic was arranged with dimensions.
