Crikvenica is a town of Croatia located on the sea Adriatique, to 37 km approximately of Rijeka, one of the largest tourist centers of the area. The census of 2001 gives a report on 11.348 inhabitants. The cities closest to Crikvenica are Kraljevica and Novi Vinodolski.

History

The city owes its name with the Croatian church (: crikva ) of the monastery paulinien set up by in 1412 by the viceroy Nikola Frankopan in 1412.

At the 19th century, thanks to its tonic climate and with its long sand beaches, Crikvenica became a seaside resort with the mode, very appreciated elites of the Empire Austro-Hungarian of a sand beach. Tourism quickly developed there and one there construsit the first hotel in 1891. It is in 1909 that the statute of town of cure was recognized in Crikvenica.

Twin towns

The city is twinned with Verbania in Italy and a pact of friendship the dregs with the Saint-Dié-of-Vosges (France).
