Cracticus torquatus

The Cassican with collar ( Cracticus torquatus ) is an Australian bird.

Description

It is 27 cm long for a weight of 100 G. The head is black, the gray wings and back, the white belly like the collar of its neck. The eye is black, the nozzle is gray. Male and female are similar but the female is a little smaller than the male. It owes its English name d'" bird boucher" with the fact that it hangs its prey with a branch of tree to devour it.

Distribution and habitat

One practically finds it in all Australia, a little less in the North-East of the continent except for the area of Kimberley. He lives in wood including in periphery of the cities and readily lets himself nourish by the man.

Food

He nourishes animals: (birds caught with the flight, lizards, insects), of fruits and seeds.

Reproduction

The season of the loves goes from July to January. The female lays 3 to 5 eggs which it only broods in a nest built with great height. The two parents raise the small ones.
