County of Kronoberg

The county of Kronoberg ( Kronobergs Län in Swedish) is a county Swedish located in the south of the country, and whose name means in French Couronne of mountain . It is close to the counties of Skåne, Halland, Jönköping, Kalmar and Blekinge.

Historical province

On the geographical level, the county of Kronoberg constitutes the heart of the old province of Småland. It was equipped with its contemporary borders in 1687 when the Comté of Jönköping was separate.

Administration

The official residence of the prefect ( Landshövding ) is with Växjö. The prefect is with the head of the Board of directors of the county ( Länsstyrelse ), an government agency representing the executive at the local level.

Heraldic

Kronoberg accepted officially its blazon in 1944, although its use was already widespread in practice. It is only slightly modified compared to that of the historical province of Småland.
