History

The Viscounts of Marsan are originating in the town of Roquefort:
  • Pierre de Lobaner, founder of the town of Mount-with-Marsan in 1133

  • Gaston Phébus, founder with Mount-of-Marsan Castle of Nolibos in 1344, of which there remains today only the Donjon Lacataye.
  • Starting from 1517, Marsan was attached to the vast domain of the family of Albret, reigning on the Navarre. Into 1560, Jeanne d' Albret is converted with Protestantism. By the ordinance of the July 19th 1561, it imposes the Calvinism in its kingdom, which will involve rough fights in the area. His/her son, Henri IV, had with Benquet a pied-à-terre, the Castle-Old man.
