Corvo (the Azores)
Corvo is more the inhabited small island of the the Azores as well as most septentrional.
It is a formed island of only one Volcan crowned of a Caldeira. Its sides in the West and North were largely mutilated under the action of marine erosion. All the island is surrounded by Falaise S very abrupt which can reach up to 700 meters in height in the West and approximately 200 meters in height on average on its Eastern side except for the southern part formed by a platform of Lave. It is on this platform, whose altitude lies between ten and sixty meters, that is established the single village of the île : Villa C Corvo.
The top of the volcano of Corvo is notched by one will caldeira of slightly elliptic form (Caldeirão) : its largeer diameter (directed North-South) is of 2 300 meters and its small axis of 1 900 Mr. His depth average is of 250 meters. Its very eroded walls indicate its old age. At its bottom it shelters two small lakes low depth. The culminating point of the island is Estreitinho (720 m), located on the Southern edge of will caldeira.
