The cortese is a Italian Cépage of white grapes.

Origin and geographical distribution

It comes from the north of Italy. It is classified auxiliary type of vine in DOC. Bianco di Custoza, Colli Tortonesi, Cortese dell' Alto Monferrato, Cortese di Gavi, Garda, Monferrato, Oltrepò Pavese and Piemonte. It is classified recommended in the provinces of Silk, Cuneo and of Alexandria in Piedmont and the Pavia. It is authorized in Province of Vérone and for the Sardinia. In 1998, it covered 2.951 ha.

Characters ampelographic

  • End of the young green duveteux branch blanchâtre with dyed with carmine edging.
  • Young aranéeuses sheets, yellowish green.
  • adult Sheets, 5 to 7 lobes with major higher sines, a petiolar sine in quadrant on superimposed board, teeth ogival, average, a duveteux limb.

Farming aptitudes

Maturity is of second average time: 20 days after the chasselas.

Technological potential

The bunches are average with large and the bays are of intermediate size. The bunch is conical, loose and winged. The type of vine is of very good strength and good production rather regular.

It is used with the wine making. The white wines are of a yellow color a little greenish straw, fairly alcoholic. It is often vinified quasi only or in assembly with the Trebbiano, the Garganega and the tocai friulano.
