Corrado Giaquinto

Corrado Giaquinto (1703-1765) is a painter Italy N of the Rococo.

Born in north from Bari, with Molfetta, Giaquinto was pupil of Francesco Solimena and Sebastiano Conca. He knew a very brilliant international career, travelling much: he was thus called at the court of Spain between 1753 and 1762 to complete work with the royal palaces of Madrid (Escurial and Aranjuez).

He carried out also a fresco intended for the Basilique Holy-Cross-of-Jerusalem of Rome, representative Moïse striking the rock. This composition, painted for the jubilee of 1750 and lost today nevertheless is known to us by a draft preserved at the National Gallery of London.

Its portrait of the Castrato Farinelli, preserved at the academy of Bologna, is also one of its major works.

It carried out the frescos of the Roman church Saint Nicolas of the Lorraine ones.
