Corel
Corel is an editor of Logiciel S which has its seat with Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
The company was founded by Michael Cowpland in 1985, and was designed to be a research laboratory. (Corel comes from the name of its founder Dr. Michael Cowpland. That signigie COwpland REsearch Laboratory (Research laboratory of COwpland)). The company is success as of the beginning of the year 1990 during the great boom of the High technology with its product CorelDraw and becomes at the same time the largest company of software in Canada.
In October 2000, Corel announced that it formed what it called “an strategic alliance” with Microsoft and which Microsoft would invest 135 million USD in Corel.
In 2003, it is acquired by Vector Capital.
With the autumn 2004, the company repurchases the company Jasc Software.
In April 2006, Vector Capital demolishes this one within the framework of an issue of shares, which evaluates the company to 62 million CAD.
May 2nd, 2006, Corel announced the acquisition of manufacturing WinZip.
