Constitutional court (Congo-Kinshasa)

The Constitutional council is more the constitutional high ranking authority of the Congo-Kinshasa. It was set up at the sides of the Court of appeal and the Council of State like authority of the judicial power by the constitution of the third Republic, thus replacing the Supreme court.

Its competences are:

  • to control the conformity of the laws and the international treaties with the Constitution;
  • to arbitrate the dispute of the presidential, legislative elections and chief clerks.

At the time of the presidential election of 2006, it is still the Supreme court which had these competences.
