The river Congo , located in the middle of central Africa. It takes its source in Democratic republic of Congo which it crosses of the south to north and the east to the west before throwing in the Atlantic Ocean. During the history, the river was called river Congo , Zaire , and Barbila . The top of the river is called Lualaba.

The Congo river traverses all the country since Katanga (Shaba) to Low-Congo, except for both Kasaï and of both Kivu.

Geography

River of central Africa, the more important second in the world by its flow (75 000 m ³ /s maximum) and the longer second of Africa after the the Nile. The first in flow is the the Amazon (200 000 m ³ /s). With the river Chambeshi, its length reaches 4.700 km.

Major the part of its course is navigable, but it is cut by rapids.

Major affluents

Lualaba - source until Kisangani: regarded as the higher course, on this course, the river is often narrow, tortuous and half-compartment of falls or rapids because of the mountains and the high plateaus which it crosses.
Middle price : it includes/understands High Congo and the Congo Means. On this course, the Congolese river crosses the immense central plain of the country. Its course peaceful and is strewn with islands and sand banks. Its width can reach from 25 to 30 km, in Makanza.

Average Congo - of Mbandaka to Brazzaville/Kinshasa: Low Congo or lower course - of Brazzaville/Kinshasa) to the mouth: it is divided in two parts.
    • De Kinshasa with Matadi (350 km), the river crosses the Mounts of Bangu and account 32 falls which make navigation impossible.
    • De Matadi with Ocean (137 km), the calm river lets go up the sea-going vessels. Between Boma and Banana, low and marshy islands divide the river into multiple arms.
