Company of the islands of America

During the year 1626, Richelieu supports the project of two sailors, of Roissy (or Roissey) and Pierre Belain d' Esnambuc: the creation of the " Company of the lords of Saint Christophe ". This one becomes in 1635, the " Company of the Islands of Americas " . Its action extends to the Guadeloupe, the Martinique and other islands and is a success. The cardinal is one of the subscribers with other close relations Razilly, Effiat, Lauzon… and one of the directors who will become one of his collaborator close relations is François IV Fouquet.

September 4th, 1649, Charles Houël buys the Guadeloupe and Holy the and establishes to with it the Company of the islands of America.

In 1664, Colbert dissolves the " Company of the Islands of Amérique" and repurchases the Guadeloupe and its dependences for the King.
