Company of the evangelic missions of Paris

The Company of the evangelic missions of Paris , known as also SMEP or Mission of Paris , was a Protestant association missionary created in 1822. Like the others Christian companies born at that time, it was in margin of the reformed Church national, and gathered Protestants of the Réveil , then of all the tendencies of French Protestantism.

The SMEP opened many fields of mission , in particular in Africa and Oceania, to start with Lessouto (Lesotho). Its missionaries “drew up” Churches, chose indigenous Anciens.

In 1964, the Churches born of the missionaries establishments of the SMEP wished the transformation of the bonds between them and the Churches of the old metropolis, which, on their side, wished the integration of the Mission to the Church .

This was carried out in 1970, when the SMEP two new organizations succeeded:

  • the CÉVAA, the evangelic Community of apostolic action (become since the Community of Churches on mission ), federation of Church-sisters gathering five Churches reformed Lutherans and of France, Protestant Churches of French-speaking Switzerland and Italy, and Churches resulting from the Mission of Paris;
  • the DÉFAP, French Department evangelic of apostolic action (become since Protestant Service of mission ),
    • service common missionary of the five French Churches members of the CÉVAA,
    • which kept the Maison of the Missions of the 102, boulevard Arago, 75014 Paris,
    • and which continues to publish Mission monthly, the Journal of the evangelic missions , the “green newspaper” of the SMEP.
