College David-in Angers (Angers)

The College and David college of Angers are a public corporation of the academy of Nantes, including/understanding a Lycée of State and a college. It is located in the downtown area of Angers. The college gathers nearly 1000 Lycéen S, of which more half are school lunchers, and approximately 80 professors. The college also includes/understands a boarding school which counts more than one hundred of pupils.

History

In 1739, a seminar intended for the old priests is installed in the house of the " Rossignolerie" , street Célestin Port.
In 1774, the Brothers of the Christian Schools increase the property. They make build new buildings.
In 1802, the law of meadow institutes the colleges, the elected officials angevins are committed paying the expenses of installation of a college.
In 1806, inauguration of the " Impérial" college; in the buildings of the " Rossignolerie".
In 1879, creation of the friendly association of the former students.
In 1888, the college takes the name of " David d' Angers" , at the time of the centenary of the sculptor.
1940 - 1944, 44 pupils and former students will be killed, off-set or shot.
In 1974, this college of boys becomes mixed and accommodates the first young girls in second. (The college of girls are equivalent was the Lycée Joachim-of-Bellay the).
In 1956, opening of new buildings, with the extension of the buildings of the street Célestin Port, in order to answer the growth of manpower requires.
In 1959, opening of the California appendix.
In 1982, creation of the College Henri Bergson, resulting from the partition of the College David of Angers, this new college is established between the districts of the Maine Lake and Beautiful-Beille, in the western districts of Angers. (Henri Bergson began its career of professor to the College David of Angers).
In 1983, creation of the Symphony orchestra of the college David of Angers. The radiation of the college David of Angers east ensured by its orchestra, “ which enorgueillit to be itself one of the very rare symphony orchestras of French college to carry out each year an international round ”.
In 1990, the District council of the Countries of the Loire undertook the reorganization of the College.
In 2006, bicentenary (1806 - 2006) of the college David of Angers.

Orchestrates

The College has an orchestra of pupils: the OLDA (Orchestra of the College David of Angers), which counts 88 musicians, created and directed (until September 2007) by RED-HEADED Mr. Jean-OJ, professor-type-setter. The OLDA makes each year a round abroad (the last in date was in the USA and Quebec), and gives throughout the year in the concerts in Anjou.

Former students

Association

The Association of the Former students, one of oldest of France, was founded in 1879 to come to assistance of the pupils and old in the need. Strong, as of its beginning, of 200 members, it takes part effectively: in 1888, with the ceremonies which celebrated the centenary of David of Angers and to the attribution of its name to the College.

Jean-Claude Brialy. (He knew his " first agitation of comédien" to the college David of Angers, he in his autobiography says).
