Cociente de compresión

The multi-media word appeared towards the end of the Années 1980, when CD-ROM developed. It then indicated the applications which, thanks to the memory of CD and with the capacities of the computer, could simultaneously generate, use or control various media: Music, its, Image, Video, and man-machine Interface interactive (IHM).

This word was created more for needs mercatic that to reflect real technological advances. Various software showed all the characteristics of this new software on various microcomputers before the arrival of the CD-ROM, even if quality were sometimes lower. Previously, one spoke rather about “video interactive” which consisted with the piloting of Magnétoscope S by Ordinateur S.

It will be necessary to await the end of the Années 1990 with the arrival of methods of compression of sound and video, as well as a certain rise to power of the personal computers, simultaneously to reach qualities similar to different the other joined together media.

Today one uses the multi-media word to indicate any application using or being used to work on at least specific media.

The tactile joysticks, gloves, glasses 3D with gyroscope, touchscreens and other interfaces man-machine are often regarded as belonging to the multi-media one; whereas they are not in they-even not “media” but rather of the extensions of media (glasses 3D without image to be posted for example).

In addition, seeks some in Informatique, one names multi-media the study of the nontextual media, mainly the images, the videos and the sounds.

The last commonly recognized definitions define the multi-media one as the industry of the " contents numérique" ( digital content ) in English. The electricals appliance, electronic, data-processing carry still sometimes the term of multi-media because they allow visualization, or the diffusion of a multi-media document. It is necessary to make the difference between the container: computers, materials, cables…, and contents: information delivered, transmitted, disseminated.

The organization representative of Multi-media in Europe is the European Convention of associations of multi-media.

The International observatory of the Trades of Multi-media, analyzes the profiles and the evolutions of the trades in this branch of industry.

Each year, the Prix Möbius of the multimedias is decreed under the patronage of UNESCO to reward various innovating works multi-media.

Multi-media and training

A multi-media environment of training is characterized by the regrouping on the same support from at least two of the following elements: text, its, still image, image animated - under digital form. These elements are accessible via a computer program (Logiciel) authorizing a degree more or less high from interactivity between the above mentioned user and elements. By Interactivité we understand the possibilities of navigation, of hypernavigation (by the means of Hyperlien S), of search of information (free or guided) and for on line help.
  • If the offered product of the activities of the type “exercise”, the quality of the evaluation ( feedback ) as well positive as negative provided by the software, whatever the form and the borrowed channel, will be a decisive criterion of the quality of the product.
  • In the case of an intended product with an institutional use, the possibility of preserving a trace of the activity of learning bound for the teacher will be regarded as an additional advantage.
  • In the case of an intended product with a use “on line”, the possibility of entering in synchronous or asynchronous communication with pars or a teacher will be regarded as a desirable characteristic.

Here still we must make the difference between the container and the contents, with the tools multi-media: computers, networks, CD-ROM or DVD-ROM and the contents, which are delivered information. More and more a form of remote teaching develops, and the student can come into contact with his teachers and reach their remote lesson thanks to Internet. This form of teaching is called the e-learning (in French, remote teaching).

Multi-media and data-processing Interworking

The data-processing interworking of the systems multimedia is obtained thanks to Framework S specific to the multi-media one.
