Cobra
The name cobra indicates several S of Serpent Venimeux, in particular of, Naja or more commonly, one of the the Indies, the Indian cobra . It is the latter which one associates with the Fakir Snake charmer, in the popular imagery.
It belongs to the family of the Élapidés.
The cobra with the characteristic to inflate its neck when it is excited (in anger). It is a trick of defense which enables him to appear much larger with the eyes of its adversary or sound Prédateur. It is at this time that the “glasses” are most visible. Contrary to the legends conveyed mainly by the book of the jungle which makes to mongoose its principal enemy, this one attacks only seldom with the cobras, except youthful, being generally satisfied to plunder the nests in order to devour the eggs.
Its Venin is extremely toxic. It inoculates it at its victim, either by projection on the mucous membranes or by bite. It is about a Neurotoxique which causes a paralysis of the muscles and in particular the respiratory muscles. It can cause death at the man into 2 to 10 a.m. Certain species can reach three to four meters length, or more.
