In the name of Coaraze Perched with six hundred and fifty meters of altitude above Nice, Coaraze is one of the most beautiful villages of France. It is a place in charge of history and legends, whose name hiding place a mysterious origin… Coaraze. The only quasi-certainty as for the name of the village east which it comes from cauda shaved, “shaven tail”. Why " tail rasée" ? Several assumptions clash… The first claims that this name is resulting from the mode as regards hairstyle which reigned at the end of the Middle Ages. Contrary to the inhabitants of the hamlets around, the natives of Coaraze would at that time have carried the short hair and shaved on the nape of the neck…

At all! The partisans at another assumption, much are indignant more glorious for the place. According to them, here well a long time, the inhabitants of Coaraze had managed to capture… the Devil in person! And to make sure that he would not flee, they would have attached it with adhesive by the tail. And to escape, in a despaired gesture, this one would have been constrained to divide it… It seems well, ultimately, that the explanation is of order geographical. Because very close to the village, the confluence of the torrent of the Gravel and the Spangle takes the shape of a lizard without tail. The same mutilated animal which is reproduced on the blazon of Coaraze…
