Coach for exceptional transport

A Wagon for exceptional transport (also called Schabel because) is a very specialized type of goods trucks. It is conceived to move too heavy or too large loads for coaches of the traditional park, and which very often exceed the normally authorized limits. For that, the vehicle is even formed around the load it, while being fixed at its two ends. The part is constant in the middle of the coach by two arms of load. The arms of load are connected to a pivot even posed to him on a pyramidal succession of pivots and executives thus making it possible to distribute the mass on a great number of Essieu X.

When this type of coach is empty, the two arms of load are attached together and the coach can move in a train of the ordinary service, at an ordinary speed. Some of these special coaches (and it is the case of two of the four which one finds in France) include a hydraulic system which makes it possible to offset the load during displacement, for example to pass a bridge. This operation is carried out at very low speed, under drastic security conditions. One counts 30 of these special coaches in North America, 31 in Europe and 26 in Asia (figures 2005).

The largest coach of exceptional transport in service, pertaining to the company ABB, carries registration CEBX 800, and is used in North America. It is equipped with 36 axles (18 for each half). Each half includes/understands 9 bogies connected to each other by a complex system of beams. Its tare (empty weight) is of 370 tons. When it is empty, this coach measures 70.6m length. It can carry a 34.5 m length load. By comparison, a traditional covered truck has one bogie of two axles at each end, measures about fifteen meters and transports a load which does not exceed 80 tons.
