History
Poitevine of origin, the valley of Clisson belonged to the county of Herbauges. It finds in the Marches of Brittany in 851 by the Traité of Angers between Charles the Bald person and Erispoë, king of Brittany by integrating the Marches of Brittany, at the same time as the Pays of close Retz. The Valley of Clisson structure during XIIe century around the Castle of Clisson and its successive lords, of which the famous Olivier de Clisson, Constable of France. It is then made up of about fifteen parishes, small seigniories of which those of Gétigné and Monnières, and many religious establishments.
The Valley of Clisson profits at that time from a frontier position between the Anjou, Brittany and the Poitou and of the system of the Steps (Marches Brittany-Poitou) which exempts it taxation of the goods. The Valley becomes an area of important exchange.
The hydraulic force of the rivers of Separates and of the Monk is an additional advantage. One account 14 tanneries for leather, a small starch manufacture and 6 mills with paper.
During the Revolution, at the time of the wars of the Vendée, the valley of Clisson was devastated.
It is organized in Clisson since 2006 the Hellfest, a festival of musics extrèmes.
