History
It is the author and Poète Québécois Felix-Antoine Savard which is at the origin of the foundation of Clermont in 1935. However, at the beginning of the 19th century, the place is populated by colonists who practice agriculture. At the time, the town of Clermont is called Chute Nairne.
With time, mills with saw and flour made an opening without forgetting the trade thanks to craftsmen. Little by little, the hydroelectric potential of the area leads to the establishment of the factory of pastes and papers. In 1909, Rodolphe Forget creates East Canada Power and Pulp , which allows the market pastes and papers to make outstanding great strides.
It is thus on February 16th, 1935 that the author of Menaud, Master-Draveur , also vicar in the parish of Saint-Etienne-of-the-Malbaie, founds officially the town of Clermont. Wanting to give a single character to the city, especially following the requests of the citizens, Felix-Antoine Savard makes a request with the bishop of Chicoutimi, Mgr Charles Lamarche, that is to say the erection of a new parish. The proposal is accepted and the city is born.
The name of Clermont is thus given in homage to the philosopher Blaise Pascal who was originating in Clermont-Ferrand.
