Claude Georgel

Born in 1959, Claude Georgel studies the saxophone near Jean Ledieu (CNR of Nancy) and Claude Delangle (CNR of Boulogne-Billancourt). He works also the jazz with Michel Goldberg in Paris (Arpej School).

Musician curious about the musics about today, written or improvised, his taste for creation leads it to meet and collaborate with many type-setters and musicians, in particular to weave bonds between pedagogy and creation. Its meeting in 1997 with Dominique Répécaud, director of the ACPC, National scene of Vandœuvre-the-Nancy, and the Festival Music Action, will be the starting point a length and constant work in this direction (collaborations with Tomás Gubitsch, François Pink, Jean-Claude Risset, François Sarhan, Claude Barthélémy, Georges Aperghis.)

Musician-accomplice of Bernard Haillant (1985-2002), it takes part in Multicolor Feeling Fanfare of Eddy Louis, with the trio Bardet Georgel-K' Padé like with the whole of Bohor improvisers.

From 1992 it develops a very intense activity within the quartet of saxophones: with the Cénoman Quartet initially, then with Sax 4, benefitting from each occasion to solicit the type-setters, and in particular to create works of François Jeanneau, Tomás Gubitsch, Vincent Mussel bed, Laurent Cugny, Pierre Bertrand. In parallel it will also found Iketnunk, then the Quartet Vag Krollock (with Julien Bogenschütz, Michel Doneda and Daunik Lazro), to explore and cultivate the richnesses of this training in total improvisation.

It is regularly invited as saxophonist soloist with the Symphony orchestra and Lyric of Nancy and form with the pianist Corinne Giuliani a duet which gets busy to make discover the contemporary repertory of this formation of chamber music (François Pink, Dominique Clément, Edison Denisov, Philippe Hurel.).

Lastly, it has cultivated for a few years the art of the solo, on written or improvised musics, with or without external support (band electroacoustic, pedal of effect.), of which CD, " Soledades" (lonelinesses) is the reflection.

Claude Georgel is professor of saxophone to the National Academy of Area of Music of Nancy and intervenes regularly with the CEFEDEM of Lorraine. He directs the collection " Wind of Sax" with the Editions Alphonse Leduc.
